SHANGHAI — Twelve people have been killed and 13 others injured in a mining accident in northeast China, state media reported on Thursday (Dec 21).
China has been working to improve mine safety to combat accidents, which happen with some frequency. Last Thursday, three people died in an accident in China's coal-producing province Shanxi.
The accident occurred at 3 p.m. (0700 GMT) at the Shuangyang coal mine of Heilongjiang Longmei Shuangyashan Mining Co, and is initially believed to have been caused by a rock burst, the report said.
According to an initial investigation, the accident that occurred at around 2:40 p.m. at the Shuangyang coal mine of Heilongjiang Longmay Shuangyashan Mining Co., Ltd. was caused by rock burst.
