A 29-year-old man was killed after being caught in an avalanche on Mount McKinley in Alaska Tuesday evening. Nicholas Vizzini of Washington State and his climbing partner, a snowboarder, were descending a slope on the West Buttress Route of North America's highest mountain when they triggered an avalanche,

On June 6, Alex Chiu, 41, also of Washington, died after a 3,000ft fall from West Buttress climbing route. Officials estimate there have been approximately 13 avalanche-related deaths and more than 130 total deaths on the mountain recorded in the history of the National Park.
