United States Geological Survey reported a 5.1 Magnitude earthquake in West Texas near Midland Monday night which was felt all the way in Austin and San Antonio

Texans were rattled by a 5.1 magnitude earthquake—one of the strongest in the state's history—on Monday evening, the U.S. Geological Survey reported. The quake happened in Martin County, about 21 miles southwest of Ackerly, according to the USGS around 7:49 p.m.

The earthquake is now considered the seventh strongest earthquake in state history. The largest earthquake in Texas occurred near Valentine in August 1931 and measured at 5.8 magnitude.

This earthquake ranked among the top five largest earthquakes in Texas history, according to the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). Out of over 100 earthquakes reported in Texas within the past week,
