New Orleans Saints quarterback Derek Carr is in the concussion protocol after sustaining his second concussion in three weeks, according to Saints coach Dennis Allen. Carr left Sunday's game against the Detroit Lions and the Saints' Week 10 game against the Minnesota Vikings to go into the concussion protocol but sustained other injuries in both of those games as well.

Saints quarterback Derek Carr is in the concussion protocol for the second time in three games, as Dennis Allen confirmed the news on Monday afternoon during his press conference. Carr is also being evaluated for a rib injury.

The boos seemed to rain down on Derek Carr until Lions defensive tackle Bruce Irvin crashed down hard on top of the the Saints quarterback with a little more than 10 minutes left in New Orleans’ 33-28 loss to Detroit.

Jameis Winston is in at quarterback for the Saints after Derek Carr suffered an injury in the fourth quarter. As Carr was throwing a pass, Lions pass rusher Bruce Irvin delivered a brutal shot, landed on Carr with all his bodyweight, and was flagged for roughing the passer.

"He's being evaluated," Coach Dennis Allen said Monday. "He's in the concussion protocol but he's also being evaluated for a rib injury. We don't have all of the results back on that, but the shoulder seemed like it came out fine. We'll evaluate him as we go throughout the week, see what his availability will be."

The New Orleans Saints (5-5) injury report includes an unexpected practice participant — QB Derek Carr .
