Suspicious packages were sent to election officials in at least six states on Monday, but there were no reports that any of the packages contained hazardous material.

The FBI and the U.S. Postal Inspection Service on Friday were investigating the origin of a suspicious package that was sent to the Minnesota Secretary of State’s Office.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation, along with the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, are investigating suspicious packages that were delivered to election officials in several states, according to officials. The letters received by officials contained "an unknown substance," Kristen Setera, spokeswoman for the FBI, told USA TODAY in an email.

The FBI says it is investigating suspicious packages that have been sent to or received by elections officials more than a dozen states. There are no immediate reports of injuries

Law enforcement agencies have evacuated the Office of the Minnesota Secretary of State after a suspicious package was delivered on Friday.

A suspicious package was sent to the office of the Minnesota Secretary of State on Friday. The office was subsequently evacuated while an investigation began, which uncovered a white substance described as “nonhazardous” inside the package.
