Western North Carolina has already been hit by a large hailstorm, with more rain to come. The system is expected to exit the Southeast by Tuesday, gradually diminishing the flash flood threat.

Flash flooding in Jefferson County is causing road closures in Beaumont. The warning was issued at 8:43 a.m. Thursday and was expected to end at 1 p.m. Update 12:29 p.m.: The Fourth Street railroad underpass is now open and the 11th Street underpass is still closed due to flooding.

An estimated 4 inches of rain fell in Lee County, North Carolina, within about three hours Thursday afternoon.

Flood watches have been issued over swaths of the southern United States. Travel delays were expected on highways and at airports.
