California Gov. Gavin Newsom on Monday amended his Trump-proofing special legislative session to address the state's wildfire crisis.

Governor Gavin Newsom agreed to add the Southern California wildfires to a special session of the legislature. This comes after Republicans in Sacramento called for that special session to deal solely with the wildfires and not focus on the incoming Trump administration.

The move by Governor Gavin Newsom came after several days of calls by Republican lawmakers for a special session to address the Los Angeles-area blazes.

Republicans called for the session to be shut down “immediately" and accused Newsom of cutting wildfire prevention funding by 80% over the last four years.

The south state Republican sent a letter asking the governor to convene a special session in response to “California’s ongoing wildfire crisis.”
