It's called a Harvest Moon because it traditionally provided farmers with more time to pick their crops. Here's what else to know about the full moon.

The skies will light up Tuesday night with a double lunar phenomenon: the Harvest supermoon and a partial lunar eclipse. Supermoons are full moons that appear larger because they happen in tandem with the lunar orbit’s closest approach to earth.

The Super Harvest Moon Eclipse sounds epic — and it is. But the eclipse will be subtle. The Moon will skim part of the perpetual shadow Earth casts behind itself, and only the top four to eight percent of the Moon will be in shadow, according to NASA.
