The U.S. House passed a bill, largely along partisan lines, that would ban transgender athletes from competing in women's and girls sports at schools and other educational institutions that receive federal funds.

The House of Representatives passed a bill, the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act of 2025, on Jan. 14. It would prohibit transgender women from participating in women’s sports at schools receiving federal funding.

The Georgia transgender bill’s sponsor also suggested that the body will take action to ban puberty-blocking drugs.

President Donald Trump has signed an executive order designed to prevent transgender athletes from participating in girls' or women’s sports.

Announced on Thursday, the National Collegiate Athletic Association said its policy applied to all athletes and was effective immediately. The policy change came the day after President Donald Trump signed an executive order preventing transgender women from competing in female categories of sports.

Of the more than 500,000 NCAA student athletes, fewer than 10 of them are trans, according to NCAA President Charlie Baker.
