Governor Ron DeSantis provided updates on recovery on the one-year anniversary of Hurricane Ian making landfall in Southwest Florida and highlighted the long-term recovery efforts over the last year.

It's been one year since Hurricane Ian, and residents in Sanford are still recovering. “We just got the cabinets in, we just got the backsplash done," resident Norm Rolf said. Rolf's house on Lily Court in Sanford was slammed by floodwaters after Ian. More than in the street, water was inside his historic home.

After Hurricane Ian, we were #swflstrong. The worst was over. Or so we thought. Hard-hit places are years away from normalcy.

The recovery process from the massive destruction of Hurricane Ian has been “nonstop, 7 days a week” and according to Florida Emergency Management Executive Director Kevin Guthrie, the job is far from over.

That formula, developed by National Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster, attributes 100 days of recovery for each day of search and rescue – which means it could take 900 days for Sarasota County to recover from Hurricane Ian.
