American Jessica Pegula stunned top seed Iga Swiatek to make her first Grand Slam semifinal at the U.S. Open. Pegula, the sixth seed, swept Poland’s Swiatek 6-2, 6-4 for her first win in a Grand Slam quarterfinal in her seventh try.

Half of the semifinal field is comprised of U.S. players after Pegula secured the fourth quarterfinal win by an American.

In the men’s quarterfinals, No. 25 Jack Draper reached his first Grand Slam semifinal — and became the first British man to get that far at the U.S. Open since Andy Murray won the 2012 trophy — by overwhelming No. 10 Alex de Minaur 6-3, 7-5, 6-2.
