Olympic hopeful Matthew Richtman won his Los Angeles Marathon debut in an opportunity to get familiar with the streets of L.A. ahead of the 2028 Summer Games.

Matt Richtman of Illinois became the first American to win the Los Angeles Marathon since 1994 Sunday, topping the second-largest field in race history in a blistering time of 2:07:56.

Matt Richtman became the first American man to win the Los Angeles Marathon in 31 years, setting a personal-best time of 2 hours, 7 minutes, 56 seconds.

Richtman’s victory means he is the first American to win the race since 1994. In that race 31 years ago, Paul Pilkington of Utah won with a time of 2:12:13.
