A man who took in an orphaned squirrel and made it a social media star says New York state’s decision to seize and euthanize the animal won’t go without a response.

Peanut's owner Mark Longo told NewsNation host Chris Cuomo that he is "appalled" that New York uses resources to kill a raccoon and squirrel.

The beloved internet personality Peanut the squirrel may be euthanized after being seized by New York state officials from his adoptive human family.

New York officials are standing beside their decision to euthanize both Peanut The Squirrel and Fred the Raccoon after seizing them. Results showed that neither animal had rabies after testing.

New York state officials said they euthanized Peanut the squirrel and Fred, a rescued raccoon, so they could test for rabies.
