Fresh off an acquittal in his impeachment trial in the Texas Senate, Attorney General Ken Paxton threatened political revenge against three House members whom he deems responsible for trying to remove him from office.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton's impeachment trial is getting closer to a verdict. Closing arguments were set for Friday as Paxton faces removal from office over accusations of corruptions and bribery.

In May, the Texas House, also dominated by Republicans, voted 121-23 to impeach Paxton on 20 articles including the allegations around Paul, conducting a sham investigation against the whistleblowers in his office and covering up wrongdoing in a separate federal securities fraud case, among other offenses.

Paxton’s supporters have vowed to spend heavily to unseat lawmakers who supported the impeachment. GOP Speaker Dade Phelan and his allies, who led the charge to oust Paxton, are armed with plenty of their own money to parry the attacks.

Geren said he believed the testimony from Paxton's former top deputies who accused him of abusing the power of his office. The veteran lawmaker also criticized Paxton's decision not to tell his side of the story at his impeachment trial.
