An intense wave of Russian drone attacks has left hundreds of thousands of households in the Kyiv region without power, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Tuesday, as temperatures fall well below freezing.

"This is the first time in four years of full-scale war that we have seen a situation of this magnitude," Mayor Vitali Klitschko said on Jan. 14. Local authorities reported earlier that air defenses were active in the capital due to yet another Russian drone attack.

Mutliple blasts were heard in central Kyiv as Moscow intensified a bid to inflict major damage to the city's power supply amid sub-zero temperatures.

Russian drones attacked targets in Kyiv early on Friday, killing four people, injuring at least 19 and inflicting considerable damage on dwellings and infrastructure, Ukrainian officials said.

An apartment in Kyiv's Obolonskyi district has caught fire following a Russian attack on the morning of 14 January.

Fires have broken out in residential areas and at industrial facilities in Kyiv Oblast after a Russian attack, with damage reported but there were no casualties. Emergency power cuts have been introduced in three districts.
