The Republican National Committee said Friday that it has no party-sponsored presidential debates scheduled for January and that GOP candidates are free to participate in any forum or debate of their choosing.

The Republican National Committee released the party’s presidential candidates Friday to organize their own debates next month before the Iowa caucuses and New Hampshire primary, a shift in policy that could increase the number of showdowns and allow the highest polling candidates to limit access to their rivals.

More Republican presidential debates will be held next month, but it's not clear which major candidates will be appearing.
