With nearly 800 cases and rising concern across the Southwest, experts warn the U.S. could lose measles eradication status without higher immunization rates.

Mohave County is home to Colorado City, which has been the epicenter of measles activity during this outbreak, along with neighboring Hildale, Utah, which is in southwest Utah. The Utah Department of Health & Human Services said there were now 74 measles cases in the state, with 58 in southwest Utah, seven more than last week.

The area of Short Creek, which bridges the Arizona-Utah border, has seen nearly 160 measles cases and counting.

A measles outbreak on the Arizona-Utah border is the second largest in the United States in 2025, which has been a record-setting year for measles.

Iowa has experienced a significant increase in measles vaccinations, with a 23% jump compared to last year, following a measles outbreak in Texas.
