The House passed the funding bill by a vote of 222-209 - sending the measure to President Trump's desk for final signature to reopen the government.
The Trump administration has used mass firings of federal layoffs as a key tool in its efforts to reshape the federal workforce. From the time he took office in January until the end of February, more than 200,000 federal workers at dozens of government agencies were fired.
• NOW: The Senate has begun a series of votes that will end with a final vote to pass a compromise funding package to reopen the government. If approved, the House will have to return and adopt the deal before it is sent to President Donald Trump’s desk to be signed.
