Brightline West's high-speed rail project from Southern California to Las Vegas has scored $3 billion in federal funding.

The funds would support construction of Brightline West, a $12 billion project that promises to bring high-speed trains to the nation in time for the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles.

The federal government on Tuesday began awarding billions in funds to passenger rail projects across the country, including earmarking more than $6 billion for two ambitious projects currently underway in California.
