The University of Michigan fired Sherrone Moore earlier in the day, an abrupt end to his career there in one of the highest profile jobs in college football.

Sherrone Moore spent the night in jail awaiting arraignment while college football's winningest school suddenly started searching for a new coach to lead the Wolverines.

According to the statement, police were called to investigate an alleged assault in Pittsfield Township, a couple of miles south of Michigan Stadium, and took a person into custody.
