Jason Miyares cosigned a letter to Congressional leadership explaining how the Chinese AI software could pose a national security threat to the United States.

The U.S. Navy and NASA already prohibit personnel from installing DeepSeek’s app on work devices. Texas, New York and Virginia rolled out similar rules for state employees in recent weeks. In South Korea and Italy, meanwhile, privacy regulators have blocked app stores from offering DeepSeek to consumers.

The congressmen raised alarms over an ABC News report saying that DeepSeek’s code allows data to be sent directly to the Chinese government.

The ChatGPT firm has called for a ban on China-produced AI models 'that violate user privacy and create security risks such as the risk of IP theft.'

Recently, OpenAI shared a letter offering some recommendations to the US government regarding the protection of the local AI industry. In the letter, OpenAI also proposes that the US officially ban the use of DeepSeek AI in government or military segments.
