There is roughly a 50% chance of more than four inches of snow north of I‑40, with a 30–40% chance to the south, wrote the weather service in their morning discussion. The highest probabilities fall in the three to eight‑inch range for much of the area.

The season’s most extreme storm so far is set to lash the eastern half of the United States with damaging ice and heavy snow late this week. It’s all being fed by a brutal blast of Arctic air that’s bringing the season’s coldest air to date.
