Winter storm warnings for seven states were announced by the National Weather Service as five feet of snow and 80 mph winds emerge.
On Thursday at 8:30 p.m. EDT an updated winter storm warning was issued by the National Weather Service valid from 11 p.m. EDT until Friday 2 p.m. EDT for Keweenaw and Houghton counties.
Blizzard warnings are issued when winds are greater than 35 mph, visibility less than 1/4 of a mile, and lasting for 3 hours. Additional winter weather alerts have been added for the Pacific Northwest and the Rockies.
